Before this car, there was a '72 Firebird Formula — the car of Mom's youth. So when it came time to buy something new, for herself, for the first time, she went looking at Mustangs and Camaros and Trans Ams with that same eye. She picked the options herself, ordered it through the Ford dealership in Huntsville, and had it shipped down from a dealer in Tennessee. There's a family memory of standing at the dealership watching it come off the truck — new, and already hers.
She turned down the Trans Am and the GT for it. Her own words: they were too much flash and not enough function — greasy macho window dressing. The LX 5.0 didn't need a body kit or a scoop to prove anything. Same 302 H.O. under the hood as the GT, less weight hanging off the outside, and nothing to say about it. That's the whole car in one decision: substance first, and let anyone who doubts it find out the hard way.
She got every option she wanted — except leather. That one detail says as much about her as the rest of the build sheet combined.
It's been in the family ever since. She drove it, then it became the one the kids learned on, then a daily driver for a while, then the car that just had to keep running — because a car that sits, rots. Whatever it took to keep it alive, that's what got done. Now it's getting the attention it always deserved: a new top, a fresh 5.0 long block from Jasper, and the repairs needed to make it reliable and road-worthy again. It starts. It drives. Time for what's next.
